The important pastoral community of Maharashtra is the Dhangars. Many of the Dhangars were shepherds; some were blanket weavers; others were buffalo herders. The Dhangars, or shepherds, stayed on the central plateau of Maharashtra. During the monsoon, because this was a semi-arid region with low rainfall and poor soil, this Central plateau becomes a vast grazing ground for October, and they will start to move to the west; after March, they will reach the Konkan area. The Konkan area flourished with agricultural tracts with higher rainfall and red soil; Konkani peasants welcomed the shepherds. They gave a supply of rice which the shepherds to back to the plateau where green was cars. With the answer monsoon, the hangars will leave the Konkan and the coastal areas and return to the settlements on the central plateau of Maharashtra.
