Smoke is not a contaminant of the gaseous air. When a substance burns or undergoes pyrolysis, a mixture of solid, liquid, and gaseous emissions are released into the air, together with the amount of air that is entrained or otherwise mixed into the mass. This mixture is known as smoke.
