Magnetite and hematite are the major iron ore found in India. Hematite is the best quality iron ore with 70% metallic content. It is reddish and mainly found in Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Andhra Pradesh. Magnetite is black and comprises 62-70% of metallic content. It is primarily found in Karnataka, Rajasthan, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. India's major iron ore belts are the Odisha-Jharkhand belt, Durg-Bastar-Chandrapur belt, Ballari-Chitradurga-Chikkamagaluru-Tumakuru belt and Maharashtra-Goa belt.
