In Dobereiner’s triads, three elements having similar properties were put in a group called triad.
However, this theory failed to explain triads of all the elements known at that time. It couldn't be explained for elements after Calcium. Dobereiner suggested that when three elements are arranged in increasing order of atomic masses the average of the atomic masses of the first and third element in a triad would be approximately equal to the atomic mass of the middle element.
