Tamil Nadu is the first and only state in India that has made rooftop rainwater harvesting compulsory for all houses across the state. Rooftop rainwater harvesting is a method in which rainwater is collected from roof catchments and stored in reservoirs for later use. Rainwater harvesting has become very important, seeing the future water crisis in the modern era. There are legal provisions to punish defaulters. This project began in 2001, and since then, it has been implemented across the whole state of Tamil Nadu. The awareness regarding this project was spread through posters in rural areas.
