Odisha is the largest producer of manganese ores in India. Other manganese-producing states in India are Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand and Maharashtra. Odisha produces about 37% of manganese ore in India. 24% of India's total production of manganese comes from Maharashtra. It is commonly used for the manufacturing of steel and ferromanganese alloys. It is also used to produce bleaching powder, insecticides, and paints. Manganese is also used in cell batteries and the production of steel.
