Detailed Solution

The Ganga river system is the largest river basin in India. Starting from Uttarakhand, it flows through eleven states until it reaches West Bengal. Ganga has different names in different states, such as in Uttarakhand, where it is known as Bhagirathi. It is known as Ganga after the Bhagirathi meets the Alaknanda. Ganga has 10 tributaries and distributaries. The longest and the westernmost tributary of Ganga is the Yamuna, which joins Ganga at Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh.
