Detailed Solution

Uttar Pradesh and Punjab are the major wheat-growing state in India.
Wheat is the second staple food of Indians, and wheat cultivation is done throughout the Indian subcontinent. Just like rice, it is also grown as a subsistence crop in Uttar Pradesh (a leading wheat producer) and as a commercial crop in India. Throughout the subcontinent, climatic and topographical conditions are not the same. Most importantly, it is a rabi crop that grows during winter and receives rain from western temperate cyclones. Some of the required climatic conditions include a temperature of 14 to 18 degrees Celsius and rainfall of 50 to 100 cm for its proper growth.
