Metal that reacts with cold water is sodium.
Metal hydroxides are formed when their respective alkali metals react with water. The reaction of water and alkali metals is vigorous. For example, an explosive reaction occurs after dropping sodium (Na) into the water, which burns with a yellow flame. The reaction is highly exothermic. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH)  is formed when sodium is dropped in cold water with the liberation of hydrogen gas. The reaction is given as:
