Detailed Solution

Alluvial soil is the most important soil in India.
It covers the entire northern plains. The alluvial soil is made up of different quantities of sand, silt, and clay. These were deposited by three major Himalayan river systems: the Indus, Ganga, and the Brahmaputra. The soils are coarse in the upper portions of the river valley, around the point of slope break. This soil is fertile and rich in minerals like lime, potash, etc. Paddy, sugarcane, banana, and turmeric are cultivated in alluvial soil.
