Detailed Solution

The Gir National Park is home to the Indian lion. It is a part of the Khathiar region in Gujarat, which has dry deciduous vegetation. This national park has an entire population of Asiatic lions. In the last century, the population of Indian lions decreased sharply due to poaching. With the protected status of these species, the numbers are steadily increasing. Other than poaching, floods, fires, and other natural calamities threaten the Gir Forest. There have been instances of the local villagers poisoning them in retaliation to the lions attacking livestock. Leopards, lions, spotted deer, and crocodiles are a few other prominent species found here.
