The knowledge system on plant species was wiped out along with the loss of lands of the Adivasis. Adivasis use approximately ten thousand plant species in their daily lives. Out of these ten thousand plant species, about eight thousand plant species are used for medicinal purposes. About 325 plant species are used as pesticides, and another 425 are used as gums, resins, and dyes. About 550 plant species are used as fibres, and about 3500 plant species are edible. Adivasis have this knowledge of each plant species, and they know how it can be utilised. But when land is lost, or when they lose their rights over forest lands due to government projects in the forests or any other reason, the entire knowledge system gets wiped out.
