Detailed Solution

Sinhala was declared the only official language of Sri Lanka by an Act passed in 1956. They were replacing English, which had been imposed during British colonial authority. Sri Lanka's actions following a 1956 Act are as follows: The state must promote and defend Buddhism. Policies enacted for government and university jobs favoured Sinhala applicants. Sinhala was declared the sole official language, while Tamil was ignored entirely. Sri Lanka implemented the policies mentioned above through a 1956 Act that denied Tamils equal employment opportunities and ignored their political and other rights. These rules were insensitive to Sri Lankan Tamils' culture and language.
