Detailed Solution

India is a continent in the northern hemisphere, and the Tropic of Cancer also lies in the northern hemisphere. The tropic of Cancer passes almost through the middle of the Indian subcontinent at 23° 5'N, exactly dividing India into two equal halves. It passes through 17 countries, of which India is one. The Tropic of Cancer cuts through eight Indian states. These are Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Tripura, Jharkhand, and Mizoram. The Mahi River is the only river that cuts the Tropic of Cancer twice-once at its origin in Madhya Pradesh and then when it enters Gujarat from Rajasthan. Odisha is located just below the Tropic of Cancer, with Jharkhand and West Bengal to its north and Chhattisgarh to its west. Maharashtra too falls into the same category, located just below Madhya Pradesh.
