Detailed Solution

Intercalary meristems are present at the base of the leaves or internodes on twigs, and they are responsible for the elongation of the internodes. Intercalary meristems are found in grasses and some other monocots, as well as some dicots. They allow the plant to continue to grow and produce new leaves and internodes throughout its life cycle. Unlike axillary meristems, which produce lateral shoots or branches, intercalary meristems produce only stem tissue.
