Detailed Solution

Concept- To prevent corrosion, a metal with high oxidisability can be used as sacrificial electrodes. Iron corrodes when it is exposed to oxygen and moisture from the atmosphere, producing iron oxide.
To stop ferrous metal from corroding, sacrificial anodes made of magnesium or zinc are utilised. Instead of oxidising Fe, Mg or Zn is used. It serves as an illustration of cathodic protection in which Fe is compelled to operate as a cathode.
Corrosion of iron is called rusting. To prevent rusting, a metal with higher reactivity can be used as sacrificial electrodes. In that way, this sacrificial electrode is first decomposed oxide form. Thereby protecting iron. Zinc and magnesium are metals that lie above iron in electrochemical series. So they have higher reactivity. Thus both of them can be used as sacrificial electrodes. Hence, the correct answer is option 3.
