Detailed Solution

Monazite technically consists of three separate minerals, but because there aren't many significant differences between them, they are collectively referred to as monazite. It has a reddish-brown hue.
Monazite is an uncommon phosphate mineral that is typically found as an extra mineral in igneous and metamorphic rocks, usually in the form of small, isolated grains. These grains accumulate in soils and sediments as they descend from the host rock and are resistant to weathering.
The main sources of thorium, lanthanum, and cerium are monazite. All of these metals are extremely valuable and have a variety of industrial applications.
Thorium is mostly purified from monazite sands and is thought to be three to four times more prevalent than uranium in the Earth's crust (Monazite contains 2.5 percent thorium).
