Detailed Solution

The “Door to Hell”, also known as the Darvaza Gas Crater, is located in the Karakum Desert of Turkmenistan. This fiery crater has been burning continuously since 1971, when Soviet geologists accidentally drilled into a natural gas cavern, causing the ground to collapse. To prevent the release of toxic methane gas, they set it on fire, expecting it to burn out within days. However, it has been blazing for over five decades. The crater is about 70 meters wide and 30 meters deep, creating an eerie, glowing pit visible from miles away. Today, it has become one of the most famous—and surreal—tourist attractions in Central Asia.
