The State of Tamil Nadu State saw violent movements demanding that the use of English should continue after 1965.
Many non-Hindi-speaking states demanded the continuance of the use of the English language. The Anti-Hindi Agitation Council was formed in reaction to new rules enforcing Hindi in the nation. With the constant struggle of the non-Hindi-speaking people, the Union government agreed to continue the use of English along with Hindi for official purposes. Later, a national policy was formed to safeguard the interests of these other groups.
