Detailed Solution

Poona Pact gave reserved seats to the depressed classes in the Provincial and Central Legislative Council. On September 24, 1932, Mahatma Gandhi and B.R. Ambedkar signed the Poona Pact to secure voting rights in the legislature of the British government. Ambedkar, on behalf of the underprivileged classes and Madan Mohan Malviya, on behalf of Gandhi, signed the document. It was also meant to put an end to Gandhi's fast, which he had been observing while in custody in opposition to British Prime Minister Ramsay MacDonald's decision to allow the oppressed classes to vote separately in British India's provincial legislative assemblies.
