Detailed Solution

Handle, platen, and printing block are parts of the Gutenberg printing press. The Gutenberg printing press was developed by a German, Johann Gutenberg, around the 1430s and 1440s. It consisted of all the aforementioned components: handle, platen, and printing block. The platen was a board, initially made of wood and later steel, that was placed over the metal printing blocks. The handle turned the screw and pressed down on the platen, which in turn pushed down the printing block positioned below. The damp sheet of paper went under the printing block to make a print. This machine facilitated the printing process of image and text materials much faster, allowing the printing of 250 pages on one side of the sheet in an hour.
