Detailed Solution

Intestinal mucosa contains enterocytes (absorptive cells), goblet cells (secrete mucus), Paneth cells (secrete lysozyme), enteroendocrine cells and M cells, or microfold cells (modified enterocytes that cover enlarged lymphatic nodules in the lamina propria). Clara cells are non-ciliated columnar cells in the bronchiolar epithelium. Clara cells may protect against harmful effects of inhaled toxins and carcinogens, produce surfactant, and function as stem cells, which give rise to various cells of the epithelium. Alveolar macrophages are also called dust cells. Chief cells and parietal cells are present in the gastric glands. Alpha cells and beta cells are present in the islets of Langerhans of the pancreas.
