Sinhala speakers, Sri Lankan Tamils, and Indian Tamils are the ethnic communities of Sri Lanka. Sinhala speakers are Sri Lankans who live in the country of their birth. The Tamils are recognised in Sri Lanka, but there are two types of Tamils: Srilankan Tamils, who make up 13% of the total population, and Indian Tamils, who make up around 5% of the total population. Their forefathers are from India and practise Indian culture, but they migrated to Sri Lanka for work under British rule. Then some of the Indian Tamils settled in Sri Lanka, whose generation is now part of Sri Lanka's population.
