Detailed Solution

  • Sacrum: In the embryonic condition, the sacrum starts as five separate vertebrae called sacral vertebrae (S1 to S5). As the individual grows and develops, these five sacral vertebrae gradually fuse together to form a single, triangular-shaped bone called the sacrum. The sacrum is situated at the base of the spine, between the two hip bones (ilium), and serves as a strong foundation for the pelvis.
  • Coccyx: Similarly, in the embryonic condition, the coccyx, also known as the tailbone, begins as four separate vertebrae called coccygeal vertebrae (Co1 to Co4). As a person matures, these four coccygeal vertebrae fuse together into a single bone called the coccyx. The coccyx is located at the end of the vertebral column and serves as an attachment site for various ligaments and muscles.
