Heat is a form of energy. The most commonly used unit of heat energy is Joule. Joule is defined as the amount of energy required to raise the temperature of the body by one degree. A Calorie is the amount of heat needed at a pressure of 1 standard atmosphere to increase the temperature of 1 gram of water by 1° Celsius. Calorie is not officially part of the metric system (SI).
