Concept- An oxidising flame is one that has more oxygen than it needs and can oxidise objects that come into touch with it. As the amount of oxygen rises, the flame that burners create will become shorter and darker in colour.
Hisses and roars are also produced as the oxygen level rises. When the Bunsen burner is activated, it generates a Bunsen flame that the air intake can control. This changes the flow from an extremely hot one, in which the majority of the fuel gases are oxidised to carbon dioxide and water, to a relatively low-temperature flux, in which the majority of the fuel is only partially oxidised. An oxidising flame is one that is hotter, whereas a reducing flame is one that is relatively less hot.
