Detailed Solution

Substitution reaction involves the replacement of an atom or group of atoms which are present in a compound by some other atom or group of atoms. There are certain conditions which are required for a substitution reaction to occur. A low temperature has to be maintained such as room temperature. A strong base should be present in the dilute form. If the base is not in its dilute form, there are chances that dehydrohalogenation takes place. Just like water, the solution has to be in an aqueous state.

The presence of inert gas is not required for the substitution reaction to occur.
