The steps required to process hnRNA into mature mRNA are as follows:

Splicing: Splicing involves the  removal of introns  and joining of exons  in a defined order. 

Capping: Capping involves addition of an unusual nucleotide (methyl guanosine triphosphate) to the 5'-end of hnRNA.

Tailing: Tailing involves addition of adenylate residues (200-300)  at 3'-end in a template independent manner. 

The fully processed hnRNA, now called mRNA, is transported out of the nucleus for translation
