Detailed Solution

Twelve per cent of the country's total cultivated area is dedicated to cultivating various oil seeds, making India the largest producer of oilseeds in the world. Groundnut, mustard, coconut, sesame (til), soybean, castor seeds, cotton seeds, linseed, and sunflower are the principal oil seeds produced in India. The majority of them are used in cooking and are edible. In addition, oilseeds are used to make soap, cosmetics, and ointments. Some of them are also used as raw ingredients. About half of the main oilseeds produced in the nation are groundnuts, a Kharif crop. In 2011–12, Gujarat had the most groundnuts, followed by Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. Rabi crops include mustard and linseed. Sesamum is a Kharif crop in the north of India; in the south, it is a Rabi crop.
