Detailed Solution

From the given options, coffee is cultivated best in laterite soil. Laterite soil is formed due to intense leaching due to heavy rainfall in tropical and subtropical climates with alternate wet and dry seasons. This soil is acidic, with a pH of less than 6 with a coarse and crumbly texture.  It lacks plant nutrients such as potassium, nitrogen, and organic matter. It occurs mostly in southern states, the Western Ghats region of Maharashtra, Odisha, and some parts of West Bengal and northeast regions. These soils are very infertile due to poor humus, but after adopting proper soil conservation techniques, it is very useful for growing coffee and tea. Red laterite soil in Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Kerala are more suitable for growing crops like cashew nuts.
