Concept: Kinetic energy(KE) is the energy that a body possesses as a result of its motion.

KE = 12mv2

Where the mass of body and v= velocity of the body

Conservation of energy: Energy, according to the law of conservation of energy, cannot be generated or destroyed; it can only be transformed from one form to another.

The overall energy of the system stays constant, i.e. the sum of kinetic and potential energy.

The total energy (T.E.) is constant in free fall. T.E = kinetic energy + potential energy.

Potential energy is transferred to kinetic energy as the items fall. As a result, potential energy drops but kinetic energy increases.

Because total energy is constant, an increase in kinetic energy reduces the potential energy value and vice versa.
