A decrease in estradiol is not associated with ovulation in human females. The follicle transforms from primary to secondary to tertiary to mature Graafian follicle. FSH and LH levels increase in response to increase in oestrogen near the end of the proliferative phase.  LH surge or increase in the concentration of LH then induces rupture of this follicle. It leads to the release of the secondary oocyte (ovum).
