Increased cardiac output increases the blood pumped from the ventricles per minute and results in the increase of blood volume in the main blood vessels. The increase in blood volume increases blood pressure. Due to the stimulation of the sympathetic nervous system, the blood vessels constrict which raises blood volume.

The parasympathetic nervous system causes enlargement of the blood vessels thus lowering blood pressure.
