The Rashtriya Janata Dal was formed in July 1997 in New Delhi by Lalu Prasad Yadav. Raghuvansh Prasad Singh and Kanti Singh were the other founding members of the party. The party's objective was to "carve out a society based on the premises of social justice and secularism." It espoused the socialist beliefs of Jaya Prakash Narayan. J.P. Narayan championed the causes of the disadvantaged in Indian society. However, it never advocated communism. INC, BJP and CPI are famous national parties.
