Adoption falls under the Concurrent List.
In the Indian Constitution, there is a subject-wise division of legislative powers of the centre and state. The Seventh Schedule of the Indian Constitution describes it in detail. The legislative powers are divided into three lists- 1) Union list, 2) State list, and 3) Concurrent list.
