When dilute acid reacts with zinc metal, hydrogen gas is liberated.   Metals that lie above in the reactivity  series react with acids to produce hydrogen gas.  Zinc reacts easily with the acid to produce hydrogen bubbles. It is a single displacement reaction in which hydrogen is displaced by zinc metal to form hydrogen gas and a salt, zinc chloride.The reaction is as follows:
Zn + 2HCl  ZnCl2 + H2
