The color of the sun at sunset and sunrise and colour of the sky is blue due to the scattering of light. Sunlight is made up of seven lights, where a few colours have longer wavelengths, like red and orange, and others have shorter wavelengths, like blue and violet. But lights with shorter wavelengths get scattered the most because of the air molecules, so blue gets scattered the most, and colours like red do not get scattered. Wherever we look, blue light falls on our eyes after getting scattered from the atmosphere, so we feel the sky’s colour as blue. During sunset or sunrise, the sun is near the horizon therefore, it must travel the greatest distance because of the greatest thickness in the atmosphere to reach us. So, at this time, the light from the sun will get scattered the most before reaching our line of sight. Red light has the longest wavelength, which makes the sun and the surroundings look reddish. The delay in sunrise and sunset is due to the refraction of the light.
