Detailed Solution

Hypothalamus and anterior pituitary are connected by the hypophyseal portal system. Hypothalamus secretes releasing and inhibiting hormones and transports them to anterior pituitary by this portal system. Somatocrinin is the growth hormone releasing hormone (GHRH). Somatostatin is growth hormone inhibiting hormone (GHIH). Oxytocin and vasopressin synthesised in the hypothalamic neurons pass through their axons (hypothalamohypophyseal tract) and are released from their nerve endings into the neurohypophysis. Somatotropin (growth hormone), TSH and MSH are produced in the adenohypophysis.
