Bengali is the most widely spoken Indian language, after Hindi, in India.
India has rich and diverse linguistic diversity. the Constitution of India recognizes 22 languages as Scheduled Languages in India. These are the most prominent spoken Indian languages. Infact, the Census of India held in 2011 recorded more than 1300 distinct languages were spoken by the residents of the country. The Census of 2011 shows that Bengali is the most widely spoken Indian language in the country after Hindi. Hindi is spoken by approximately 40 percent of the population while Bengali is spoken by approximately 8 percent of the population followed by Telugu at 6.7 percent and Tamil at 5.7 percent.
