The Ryotwari System was introduced by Sir Thomas Munro in 1820, then governor of Madras practised the system in the Madras and Bombay region of the country. In this system the peasants, farmers and cultivators had right over the land, the tax was directly collected by the government from the peasants. The peasant was evaluated on the basis of lands they cultivated. This system continued for nearly 5 years.
