Hydrochloric acid dissociates to produce hydrogen and chloride ions in their solution.
Substances which produce hydrogen ions on dissociation in an aqueous solution are called acids. While the hydrogen ion in HCl is drawn to the partially negative oxygen atom in water, the more electronegative chlorine ion is drawn to the partially positive hydrogen atoms in water. This causes the HCl acid to dissociate into its individual ions by separating the H+ from the Cl-. So, Hydrochloric acid dissociates to produce hydrogen and chloride ions:
HCl H++Cl-
