There are two main circuits of blood circulation in the human body: the systemic circulation and the pulmonary circulation (double circulation).
Systemic blood circulation carries oxygenated blood away from the heart to the rest of the body, and returns deoxygenated blood back to the heart. It delivers oxygen, nutrients, and hormones to the cells of the body and removes waste products.
The systemic circulation begins with the left ventricle of the heart, which pumps oxygenated blood to the systemic tissues through the dorsal aorta and into the arterial system. The deoxygenated blood is then returned to the right atrium of the heart through venules, veins and vena cava.
Lungs, pulmonary artery and pulmonary vein are the components of the pulmonary circuit.
