The test currently used for the diagnosis of COVID-19 is the Realtime RT-PCR. In Realtime Reverse Transcription PCR (Realtime RT-PCR), the RNA of the virus is first reverse transcribed into complementary DNA (cDNA) using reverse transcriptase. The DNA is then amplified using Realtime PCR. In Realtime RT-PCR, fluorescent probes are used, and the results can almost immediately be seen while the PCR process is still ongoing.
