Detailed Solution

Red soil is ideal for dry farming as it consists of igneous rocks formed from heavy rainfall and thus does not require moisture. The weathering of crystalline igneous rocks develops red soil in areas with low rainfall in the eastern and southern parts of the Deccan plateau. It is also found in the parts of Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Gangetic plains, and the piedmont zone of the Western Ghats. This soil is red due to the diffusion of iron in crystalline and metamorphic rocks and the formation of iron oxides. This soil is deficient in organic matter and nitrogenous materials but fairly rich in potash. It consists of loose gravel and highly coarse materials. Thus, the cultivation of crops is done with the use of fertilisers.
