The Songram Sangma Revolt in 1906 is also known as the Revolt of Assam. It resulted from the uprisings of the tribal groups in Assam against the colonial forest laws. The British exploited the tribes, depriving them of their customary access to the forest, which led to their uprising. The Colonial Forest Laws were another target of the Revolt. These laws deprived the tribes of their legitimate right over forest products.
