Detailed Solution

Ethanol is an organic compound also known as ethyl alcohol. All the chemical properties of ethanol are based on its alcoholic nature. When ethanol reacts with sodium it liberates hydrogen gas and forms sodium ethoxide. On burning in the air or presence of oxygen, it forms water and carbon dioxide. It reacts with concentrated sulphuric acid to form ethene. Ethanol is soluble in water, this is the physical property and not a chemical property of ethanol.
