To become a National Party, a party must satisfy the following criteria-
1)      The candidates that the Party has put up in four or more states during the last general election of Lok Sabha, or the Legislative Assembly of that particular state, must secure at least six per cent of the total valid votes polled in each of those states during the general election. It has to return four members at minimum to the Lok Sabha in the previous general election.
2)      During the last general election of Lok Sabha, the Party had to secure at least two per cent of Lok Sabha’s total number of seats by any fraction more than half being counted as one. The Party’s candidates were elected to that house from not less than three states.
3)      It has to attain the status of a state party in at least four states.
