Rainwater harvesting is a simple method of collecting rainwater for later use. For rainwater harvesting, numerous ways have been used in different areas. People have built diversion channels for agriculture in hill and hilly locations, similar to the guls or kuls of the Western Himalayas. "Rooftop rainwater collection" is a prevalent practice in Rajasthan for storing drinking water. Residents in the Bengal flood plains created inundation channels to irrigate their fields.
