Lead is an element and it is made of only one similar type of atom. On the other hand, compounds are made up of different atoms in a fixed ratio. For example sulphuric acid(H2SO4), calcium carbonate (CaCO3) sulphur dioxide (SO2) are compounds whereas lead (Pb) is an element.
