Rusting of iron is not an example of physical change. When a substance undergoes a physical change, its composition remains the same. A physical change affects only physical properties i.e. shape, size, etc. Physical change is a temporary change. For example - burning of a paper to form a new substance ash is a chemical change and the process cannot be reversed. A substance's composition cannot change as a result of a physical change. Iron melting, iron rod bending, and iron wire drawing are all physical modifications since they involve altering the substance's physical condition and shape. Rusting of iron results in a chemical change that creates a new substance called iron oxide.
